Western Sun Federal Credit Union

Company Description

Western Sun Federal Credit Union began in December 1940, when a group of employees from the Barnsdall Oil Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma, pooled their resources to form a cooperative financial institution. They named it Tulsa Be Square Federal Credit Union.

In 1950, Barnsdall Oil Company merged with Sunray Oil Company, leading to rapid share growth for the credit union. In 1963 the name was changed to Tulsa DX Federal Credit Union, and in the 1970 the name changed again to our current name, Western Sun Federal Credit Union.

For the first 53 years, the credit union was an SEG credit union, only serving employees and relatives of select companies in Tulsa. In 2001, Western Sun received a community charter to expand our services to all residents of Tulsa County and Okmulgee County. This expansion opened up an entirely new door for membership and allowed us to better serve our community with a variety of financial products and services.

Over the years, Western Sun Federal Credit Union has grown to include six branches throughout the Tulsa metropolitan area, with branches in Bixby, Broken Arrow, Okmulgee, Owasso, and Tulsa. In 2019, we received our community expansion charter from the National Credit Union Administration to serve the entire Tulsa MSA, which includes the counties of Creek, Okmulgee, Osage, Pawnee, Rogers, Tulsa, and Wagoner.
